Mangled tail. What to do

I have read the other posts about bitten off tails, however my BD I just discovered has a badley mangled tail. She is about 18" long and the tail is severly mangled about 5" from the tip or about 1/2 way up. I don't see any blood but it lookes like her room mate knawed on it. It is limp from the mangled part down to the tip. She seems to be fine and is eating OK. I have seperated her from her female room mate. (I thought females didn't fight each other).
Should I immediately take her to the vet to get it amputated? There is some discoloration in the area where it was bit but no bleeding that I can see. Because it is not falling off could it recover and be OK?

Thanks in advance
