In Reply to: Question about eggs due to hatch around 5-14??? posted by electron337 on May 10, 2003 at 17:53:12:

:This is my second clutch so far this year and I have a concern. This has been my first season breeding and I am still getting used to the incubation process. This clutch was laid on march 22nd so by my calculations they will hatch out somewhere around May 12th to May 16th. My question is: Aren't the eggs are supposed to get soft and start to dimple in about two weeks before they hatch? Two of the seven eggs have softened up and have begun to dimple in and five are still really firm, two of which have developed dark spots on the insides of the eggs. (not mold, but dark areas you can see through the shell) If they should be hatching out in a matter of days, shouldn't the eggs start to soften up and start to dimple in. All seven of the eggs were candled and appeared fertile when they were laid. These eggs were very large and bright white until a week ago. Could this be a bad sign that some of these guys may not hatch out. The eggs still appear to be healthy and with the exception of them not dimpling in I wouldn't be second guessing them at all.
