Pythons die a lot quicker of IBD than boas do...

Yes, they can get it. Actually, I have heard of the 'ball python test', where you keep a boa with a cheapo ball python for a while and see if the bp gets sick to check whether the boa has IBD or not. Boas can live a long time with IBD before showing symptoms, but it's a lot more lethal in pythons.
