THE STAR (Petaling Jaya, Malaysia) 21 September 00 Woman saves hubby from snake
Besut: A 54-year-old woman here was forced to fight a 9m snake to save her 62-year-old husband.
The incident happened last Sunday as Fatimah Awang Hammat and her husband Wan Ismail Wan Hassan were clearing their rubber smallholding 500m from their house in Kampung Panchor, 23km from here.
Suddenly, a snake weighing about 30kg attacked Wan Ismail and coiled itself around him causing him to fall.
"I cried for help and my wife, who was not far away, rushed to help,'' he told reporters in his house here yesterday.
Fatimah struggled with the snake for about 20 minutes before she managed to grab her husband's golok (a curved machete). The snake released her husband after she started slashing it with the golok.--Bernama
