reptile's popularity among asians

I found out that people in asia aren't so keen on reptiles.
They'd prefer dogs, birds or cats.
I know that in my country Indonesia, people do buy them, just sometimes, and only some are really serious about them. They sometimes buy the pets just to be 'cool'.
It doesn't cost that much to keep reptiles here; you don't need the heater stuffs, the humidity is sufficient, the atmosphere is just right for them here.
