MALAY MAIL 07 January 00 All excited over 3-legged gecko
Do three-legged, fork-tailed, golden-eyed jungle geckos bring luck?
D. Murthi is not going to part with such a reptile he found on New Year's Day, believing that the discovery was destined.
"One doesn't come across something as unique as this every day. I consider this a good luck charm and a good start to the New Year," he said while showing off his rare find at his flat in Kampung Padang, Malacca, recently. "I have not named it yet, but Lucky would be a good one."
The 34-year-old housing contractor spotted the lizard on the wall of a half-completed building in Alor Gajah on Jan 1. "It is no ordinary gecko. I believe it came from a nearby jungle. Common house lizards don't have gold-coloured eyes."
Feeding it with a daily dose of mosquitoes and houseflies, the father- of-six keeps his pet in a clear, plastic aquarium and hopes to find a partner for it soon. He said friends had told him not to give it away. The lizard has created a stir among neighbours who would drop in to gawk at it.
