I am a US based reptile who was born and raised in S'pore. While, I very much agreed with what DKK said, I really think that it should *not* be made too easy just for anyone to obtain an exotic pet in such a small place as S'pore.
Various past incidents where big snakes like the Burmese pythons were abandoned really shows that even with such hefty fine people do buy on their whims and later discard these wonderful animals.
What I think would be beneficial for all, is to have an exotic animal society just like the firearms club where interested individual would received the right guidance and have their residence approved for keeping an exotic animal. In addition, the owner would have to bring their pets for regular vets’ inspection. Each of these animals would be implanted with ID chip too.
