My daughter and I were swimming in Lake Travis, Austin Texas when a three foot long snake swam up beside us. He seemed fairly aggressive, but spent most of the time underwater, and only occasionally put his head above water near the shoreline to look around. Is there any way to tell whether or not he was a rattlesnake, copperhead or water moccasin from a distance?
