My corn snake does the same thing, but if i put the rat right next to him, the he attacks it quick, but if I leave it any where in the cage, he will stalk it. This may take upto a couples hours before he goes in for the kill. So leave the mice in his cage for a few hours, or put it directaly on top of him.
