i have had great success culturing springtails. i just buy regular potting soil and stick them in there. i started with 1 $3.00 cup of springtails and now have various plastic shoe boxes filled. i tend to drop loads into my tanks and have not had any problems. in actuallity i dont ever see any sprintails in my tanks, but i know theyre there because of the large numbers i drop in. i have had a couple tanks that i havent re-done or anyhting to and they are still doing fine even with the large number of springtails those tanks have seen in the 2 yrs. i would say not to worry. i havent had any problems as of yet, and im glad to know that if i ever do run out of food the frogs have a back up source within their owns tanks.
