To be honest, the Ca:Ph in most feeders isn't that great. Silkworms are an example of one of the feeders that have a decent ratio, almost 1:1, which still isn't ideal.

The Ca:Ph of waxworms is better than that of mealworms, however, it is still deficient for normal bone growth. But like I said before, that particular ratio isn't optimal in most any insect. In crickets it's even worse, with 0.2 mg/kcal of calcium for every 2.6 mg.kcal of phosphorus. The Ca:Ph of waxworms is better than mealies and crickets. So if their ratio is so bad that they cannot be fed, than crickets can't be fed either. But luckily not all hope is lost. When considering diet, Ca:Ph is important, but not really as important as people make it out to be (your reptile will explode into oblivion if you don't have a perfect 2:1 ratio), especially when dealing with carnivorous animals. The 2:1 ratio was devised with specific species in mind anyway, they didn't take into account the needs of different species.

What makes waxworms bad, is that they're 73% fat.
