The subspecies doesn't matter considering that most people can't even tell one subspecies from another. Two is a good number of anoles to keep in a 20 gallon enclosure, though it is also good to have as few anoles as possible. From my experience with keeping a male and female green anole pair, there is competition for food (as in, my male will take a half-chewed meal worm out of my female's mouth) so I have to make sure and oversee whether they both get enough to eat. This can be time-consuming, and you might just want to go about having one anole in the enclosure.
