First alterna was on 6/4/94 (9:40 p.m., 84.2, 40% humidity, 29.83 psi, slight breeze from the west, and thunderheads to the east.) at Palma Draw. It was a young adult female black on black blairs with a very nice irradiance. At first I thought it was a root. After having a spotlight on it for about a minute, it moved it's head slightly. Then I knew it was a snake and ran up to it. From the bottom of the cut looking up at it, I thought it was a Blacknecked Garter. Finally I figured out it was an alterna and the adrenalin broke lose. About twenty minuts later while driving I had a pain in my fingure tips and found tons of thorns and cuts. I was so excited, I didn't realize I was tearing my hands up climbing the cut!
