:Not only would I like to know the story (history) of this animal but I'd like to know it's future too. What do you do with this animal next spring for breeding? Is it now relegated to celibacy for it's life or will it be put in a breeding program? And just what exactly will it be mated with?
:I realize this is not my problem per se, but I am very curious. I planned on making my first trip out there next season and frankly if I caught something like this animal I wouldn't know what to do with it. It is beautiful though.

>>This snake was owned and I believe collected by Ric Blair. He gave it to me to breed. Heck of a nice guy Ric is. He has been bred to a River Rd. celanops in the past but Ric said the babies just turned out like high band count celanops and not as pretty as other known pure celanops he produces.
I got it this summer and put it on a female River Rd. alterna, he tried to copulate w/ her but I don't think he succeeded. He was then sitting away from her so I put a River Rd. alterna male in with them to see if they would combat and see if it would make the "hybrid" attempt another copulation. Unfortunately I got a phone call and when I returned the two alternas were locked up ruining the certainty of parentage. The female later laid 5 eggs, all infertile. I think this was related to timing not parentage as the female had been ovulating about 2 weeks before I got the "hybrid".
For next year I plan to breed him with a River Rd. alterna and a River Rd. celanops, if I can get an adult by then. I'm definately not into manmade hybrids and I don't even like generic anything. If I positively identified this snake as a pure celanops I wouldn't breed it to an alterna.
