I use cups about twice the diameter of the ones cottage cheese comes in. The height is best if not more than 3 inches above the substrate. Bark will not work. I have put moss on top, and then I haven't. I haven't noticed any difference in success. Try putting two containers in, one with and one without, and see which one it uses. You could answer that one for us!
