Burrowing Asps of the family Atractaspis are known in Africa as Stilleto Snakes. They are also called: Mole vipers, Burrowing adders and side-stabbing snakes. They bite with a peculiar sideways stab. That is why they can not be held behind the head. Manny people get bitten by them, because they mistake them for harmless Wolfsnakes.
