Elliot,
I'm working on my PhD and do some treefrog research. What question are you trying to answer with your intended research?? Keep in mind that scientific research involves a lot more than just breeding animals. I'd highly recommend doing a literature review (i.e. Journal of Herpetology, Herpetologica, Copeia, etc. - NOT the popular magazines). For starters, try the work of James Collins, Matthew Parris, Walter Meshaka, Peter Morin, or Sarah Kupferberg.
