I have a yellow ratsnake project that was supposed to be a dbl-het cross(red-eye albino, axanthic) and 5/13 hatched RUBY-eye albino--3 traits.hats althatd be seen(red eye vs. ruby eye vs "normals"(both hets and axanthic due to metamorphose))but now 1 of the 3 red eye has turned ORANGE(others are yellow)and 1 of 5 ruby-eyes looks like a red X ruby(other are ruby).
Here's my question: is albinism variable??According to the punet squares I could have 2 types of albino(red and ruby--1/4)and 1 type of double trait(red X ruby--1/16)and 1 type of triple trait(orange--1/64)but with only 13 hatchlings that seems VERY unlikely. I know of no other reptile with 2 types of albinism expressed so I have no way of verifying dominance or variability but could it be possible with the amount of chaos on that loci that could lead to variability?? What happens on the genetic level when this happens?? Any and all info would be appreciated, thanks,Jeff
