: My interest in herps was fostered about 3 years ago by my two sons, now 10 and 11 years old. They started out by requesting books from the library or bookstore. My now 11 year old spent $35 of his 8 yr old birthday money on a book about snakes and reptiles. We now have 62 snakes and are incubating our first clutch of ball python eggs due in a couple of weeks.
Hi John,
I often take the grandbrats and some of their friends on 'Scorpion Hunts'. Not a Hunt goes by that we don't find something, be it a Black Widow or a Box Turtle. A couple of months ago, I took them with me to release a rescued horridus. Sometimes we even find a scorpion. And I am sometimes called upon to bring a snake to my daughter's Cub Scout Troop meeting, so must keep an NV on hand for that purpose.
I think the kids I deal with will have at least a tolorence for herps ind in some cases, a real intrest.
