I came home from school and, as sometimes happens with various other animals, my dad surprised me with two baby snakes. He had found them sleeping together [most likely under a piece of wood or something]. We live in Moraga, California, US... more vaguely, san francisco area, more vaguely, northern california. The two snakes are [pictures at the end] about a foot, perhaps more, long, gray on the top, orange with black speckles on the bottom, and an orange band around their neck. They are about as big around as a pencil. They are pretty fast little guys, and their defensive stance seems to be not to attack or bite or anything like that, but to hide under themselves or something. I really would like to know what kind of snakes these are and also, if you know, what to feed them.

Thanks so much!
