I kept him overnight and let him go this morning. I chose to release him in a large pile of leaves right at the opening to the area under my porch. It's an enclosed porch that's quite large, and has a "cave" under it that is too small for a person to climb under but perfect for little animals. There are lots of old leaves under there as well for him to hide in and be protected from the rain and predators. He crawled right under the porch and will hopefully be safe there. Someone said they eat worms and slugs, and there are lots of them in that leaf pile at the opening to the porch "cave". I sure hope he makes it and that I get to see him or his relatives again someday!
