There are some monitors that look similar when they are small. This is a pic of an ameiva I once had.

There's a good basic care sheet at http://www.reptileallsorts.com/ameiva-cs.htm. They can be shy and fast, and also may bite. They do best if left alone and kept in a well-planted large terrarium with plenty of hiding places and good vertical space, good humidity, UVB and heat. They are carnivorous - insects and pinky mice are a good diet.
