Second, the comment "Antivenin was not used because of risk of allergic reaction" is bogus. The choice to not use antivenin is okay, especially in the case of a non-lethal bite. However, if the bite is serious enough to threaten life, the only thing that will prevent death is antivenin regardless of allergic reaction. Anaphyllaxis can be prevented with other drugs prior to the use of antivenin.
