: Once again you assume that the majority believe in the Shroud.
Once again you completely fail to understand. I cited a religious belief that some people might scoff at because it sounds silly and strange to them. I did not state that it was a majority belief. It is not, even among Catholics. The Church itself disclaimed the authenticity of the Shroud at one time after radiocarbon dating, but more recent studies have suggested that the original dating sample was contaminated with more recent biological material. Controversy and debate in both scientific and religious circles continues to attend the Shroud, but it is still an object of veneration for many who accept its authenticity on faith. I do not think it would be wise or courteous to scoff at their belief merely because it sounds strange or silly - though I myself do not believe.
: You are mistaken, I think this is one subject I know more about since I practice it!
Practicing a religion and knowing very much about that religion can be two different things.
: My original question to you regarding this matter was why are you so compassionate about snakes yet not other animals.
If you buy your meat from the supermarket, you are supporting a slaughterhouse system that is very far from compassionate. My spiritual beliefs aren't compatible with that degree of animal cruelty, even to animals I don't much like or care about, so I don't buy supermarket meat. If you can demonstrate an equal degree of committment to your spiritual beliefs or ethics, I will be duly impressed.
I don't practice animal cruelty. I don't consider feeding my snakes to be cruelty - quite to the contrary; if I did not feed them, that would be cruelty. For health reasons most of my collection eats frozen/thawed in any case.
: You say it is wrong to kill the snake in question(which I agree with)but if so then why can you not concede that any unnecessary killing is wrong also?
I don't consider killing for food to be a bad thing, particularly if it is done in a manner that is compassionate and respectful. There aren't many other good reasons to kill.
: For example why must you kill for food when you can live to a ripe old age eating a vegetarian diet. Is it because you like meat? Then you have made the same decision as the man wanting to kill the snake except it fits your way of thinking and creature comforts.
Not true. I select an appropriate prey animal, dispatch it in a humane manner and use every part of it with appreciation and respect. That is an honorable and spiritual act for me. A human killing a snake generally does so out of arrogance or ignorance. Very rarely does he even eat what he kills.
: You are a true hypocrite in every sense of the word.
And you are truly ignorant if you cannot understand that there is a difference between killing to eat and killing merely to kill.
: you have a hard time understanding the full context of their message.
Pot. Kettle. Black.
