Belcher snake, fact or fiction?

I'll try and make this brief -- I work at a closed-captioning compnay, and I have had the misfortune to caption the movie "Sphere." In it, Sharon Stone's character makes reference to what *sounds* like "Belcher sea snakes." Granted, they undoubtedly made the name up (I don't think that many sea snakes frequent depths of 1,000 feet, where the movie takes place, unless sea snake submersibles have come a long way), but the name of the game is accuracy. So, if anyone has heard of this snake, or a name similar, do post it ASAP. Thanks.
