: : : : can you tell me the names of the ten most
: : : : poisonous snakes in the world?
I would guess that what you really want to know is the 10 deadliest snakes in the world.
Since the toxicality of snakes is difficult to compare, as venoms work in different ways.
The most toxic snakes are several species of sea snakes. The bite can kill a 200 pound man in less than 4 minutes.
However, most sea snakes are relatively docile, and do not aggressivly attack anything other
than food, or an enemy.
As far as deadly snakes:
1) The Black Mamba: Unlike the Green Mamba, this snake is phenomenally aggressive, fearless, and
fiercely territorial. Probably the deadliest snake in existence. Can kill a full grown man in
under 15 minutes.
2) The Taipan: Also aggressive and territorial. Will chase an intruder until it is caught. Kills in
15-20 minutes.
3) The King Cobra: The largest of the venomous snakes. It is aggressive and deadly.
4) The Boomslang
5) The Bushmaster
6) The Australian Brush Viper
7) The Indian Cobra: a smaller, but nasty version of the King Cobra.
8) The Palm Viper
9) The Brazilian Vine Snake
10) The Rattlesnake: I know that this would seem surprising considering the list shown here,
but because of the vast number of rattlesnake species (over 140 in America alone) creating
anti-venom is very difficult, since it must be conducive to the species. The hemotoxic venom
of a rattlesnake attacks the blood of it's victim, and is slow moving, taking quite a while to
kill a large victim. The neurotoxic venom of the other animals on this list attacks the nervous
system of its victim, and is much quicker. However, this snake is still the leading cause of
death due to snakebite in the Northern Hemisphere.
