I quess you didn't get the whole picture, yes this is ONE GUY and ONE HATCHLING, but when every ONE GUY takes ONE HATCHLING it does make a difference in some areas. If your talking about a remote area that is rarely visited it I agree it probably wouldn't make a difference. But in areas that have a higher human population it will have an effect I have seen it happen.
I know of a number of ponds/lakes with public access that have a had healthy turtle population in my area dwindle away to only a few turtles over the years, yet the private ponds/lakes in the same locale are doing just fine.
If you don't understand that point of view I give up
