But, with aquatics you can make the pond deep enough that it's not a problem. Koi keepers do this for herons and raccoons, luckily herons don't seem to eat full grown aquatic turtles. Three feet deep seems to work well. Herons will in some cases try fly-bys over the pond for fish, but I do not think that would work for turtles.
