While it's great you're trying to find an alternative to crickets...please remember that crickets are a staple diet item for these wonderful frogs we like to have as guests in our homes. The exercise and instincts involved in hunting for dinner are surely important in giving captive frogs a likeable home, that tries to recreate their native environment.

A thought: if you love these creatures think carefully about what type of lifestyle you are able to provide them. Would you keep a large dog if you had no space for it to run and exercise?

Alternative: if you've got a garden, perhaps insert some ponds with running water, plants etc. This type of environment will attract insects and frogs (or you may have to purchase tadpoles native to where you live to start a breeding colony). In this situation, the insects can stay outside, and you'll have created a beautiful feature that provides home, shelter and water to many creatures. Take your torch and a friend out at night and you can enjoy watching frogs in this way. You'll see them particularly on rainy evenings.
