just out of curiosity, i overheard someone at my local herp shop that fed a fuzzy to a neonate (atb) that was refusing pinkies(or apparently had begun refusing pinkies, since i got the sense that it had eaton two or three before), and now there was a blackish color where the fuzzy was in the stomach. apparently, it hadn't thrown up yet and was otherwise normal. does anyone know the kind of complications that could result from feeding a food item that is too large (with the resulting symptoms as the above) to a neonate atb? the employees were concerned but didn't really know what to do, and i'm not sure if it was they who recomended this thing in the first place. i think the next time i stop by i might try to tell them what happened, if anyone knows anything. thanks.
:Hi,

:To start with, John Hedger knows his stuff when it comes to neonate ATB's and his advice is sound. On my end of things it looks like you had two probelms in this. One was using a food source too large and the other is that it seems you are not giving them the time they naturally need to become an established feeder. That aside let's see if we help here.

:1) Wait 10-14 days before trying to feed again.
:2) Do NOT use fuzzies or parts of one. You need to find 1-3 day old pinkies to work with this species. There's no choice in this.
:3) EACH INDIVIDUAL NEOANTE WILL BE DIFFERENT IN ITS FEEDING METHODS.

:That means that some might eat from your hand within a couple of seconds while another may take 15 mintues and you need to bring a book. My way of feeding is that each is housed individualy and when it's time to feed I hold the live 1 day old pinky above their head and let them "nose" it for awhile (2-10 min). Thanks to John, I'll blow lightly on the neonate to get a strike which usually results in a feeding if they won't take it the other way. Tube feeding such a small animal usually results in a dead animal at this age. You are not going to be ready for the Dec. Reptile show but instead need to take your time and work with the smallest size pinky you can obtain. You're welcome to read my care sheet at www.thedarkgrove.com if you like.

:Hope that helps some
