There's no need to ad the dry ice to water, the fog that would produce is not what kills the rodents. The dry ice releases CO2 which puts the rodents to sleep very quickly and painlessly. They don't suffocate and painfully struggle for air, they "go under" just like as if being "put under" for surgery, only they recieve a fatal dose of gas.

I use a big rubbermaid storage tub and put a couple pounds of dry ice in it, set a cage or lab box full of rodents in and put the lid on (I do it this way so the mice don't come in contact with the dry ice) . After about a minute or two, I open it up, take out the rodent box and put another one in. (be sure to do this in a well ventilated area, or outdoors) A 2-4 pound block will last practically all day. If you filled lab boxes with 50 mice each, you could literally kill thousands of mice in a few hours with less than $5 worth of dry ice.
