In Reply to: Brent - question about pest control... posted by Niki on April 11, 2000 at 21:21:33:
Niki good question. Many products on the market are labeled safe for food plants. Not all are safe. Here is why. Some are safe if you wash the plants before eating.I have seen some fancy enclosures, but none with a little tortoise sink for washing food before eating. If the repelant is not made of natural food ingredients they are NOT safe for around tortoises. Food ingredients would include pepper, garlic, grape extract etc.. Many repelants use napthalene or similar chemicals. These are liquid forms of moth balls(insert George Carlin joke here).Moth balls are carcinogenic and highly dangerous. Why they are not banned is beyond me.I would recomend your neibor useing mole traps instead. They work better and are safer overall. Moles borough under ground, how is he going to get the repelant deep enough to repel them? All he will do is make them dig alittle deeper.
Sorry took so long to respond.
: what do you know about "Mole Repellant"? My neighbor
: wants to spray some around his yard, claims it
: says it not harmful and can even be sprayed on
: garden plants since it doesn't kill them, just
: repel them. Is there any danger in this since
: I live nextdoor??? Teddy grazes outside and our
: chain link fence runs between our yards. niki
