are you referring to ? There are many virulent strains of Herpes and Adenovirus which can infect and kill tortoises. This occurring in a collection depends on several events: 1) an animal is an infected, but otherwise healthy carrier 2) others in the collection are as yet unexposed but perhaps more susceptible due to a different level of immunity. These events clearly can happen with the result that a collection can be wiped out. But the major risk of spread does not relate to keeping the animals together. Most of these viruses spread through air or your fingers. If you have a tort with a lethal virus, the others in your collection are screwed no matter where in the basement you put them.
