: Can Bells hingeback torotises live outside in a big yard with bermuda grass year round in mid wetern Arizona. During the summer it is around 105in the day and 90 at night, and 75in the day and 35at night in the winter. There is a pool but it has a fence.
Make sure there is plenty of shade, hibiscus bushes , and other leafy plants to hide under.Hingebacks are forest dwellers, so they enjoy a well planted enclosure, with trees and shrubs.
You can set up a mister on a timer, to mist most of the enclosure down for an hour or so, during the hotest part of the day.
I mist my box turtles enclosure down daily, but leave their favorite hiding area dry.
Also provide at least one soaking area, a large but SHALLOW plastic plant pot saucer sunk into the ground works well.
Make sure the tortoise can get in and out of it, very easily, without tipping over.
That way it can take a soak whenever it wants.
So provide lots of shade and hiding spots, keep up the humidity by misting, and provide at least one soaking area.Hope this helps.
Terry.
