Hi Patti.

The sulcata is a most friendliest tort you will find, but grows BIG fast.
You say that you've read lots, have you got the money to fulfill it's ......housing needs in 5yrs?
It's food bills, heating cost's during wintery months.
Once it reaches 18"~ (4yrs) you will not be keeping it indoors as a pretty little cuddly tort, it's poop alone will smell the house out, it's urine discharge will flood a kitchen floor.

Apart from that, I personally have 3 of them, but was lucky enough to build an outside home for them, big enough to take care of them for the next 50yrs~.
Check out this link for further advice,

Best of luck with your decision, & sure others will offer you advice.

: Hello all. I am considering buying a captive-bred juvenile sulcata. I've done my homework and have decided that I indeed have the time, space, and resources to devote to the care of the animal. However, I'd appreciate some advice from current sulcata owners so I avoid making any mistakes that either the tortoise or I would regret. I've read everything I can find on the Internet, but haven't run across answers to questions such as growth rate and longevity. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
