There's no evidence that any of the armadillos other than the 9-banded can carry leprosy. Also, leprosy is a pretty curable disease, not horrifying as in the pre-antobiotic days!

The 3-banded only has 1 offspring per litter. So if you want quadruplets, you need a 9-banded (but then you've got the leprosy hazard and much harder care requirements!)
