:I have a male cheeryhead and a regular female what is the size of the female when she is sexually mature and how is the correct way of measuring she is about 8 inches from front edge to the back edge of the top shell but is only 6 1/2 length just measuring front to back. the male keeps trying to mount her but i never see her allow him to stay.
You measure SCL or Straight Carapace Length, a good way to do this is to place the tortoise against a wall and make a mark at the furthest extent of the shell them measure to that mark from the wall. If this is a female "normal" redfoot shje is probbly still too small to produce eggs. I have a male standard that I thought was females till he reached 8 inches SCL.
