There is no bubble to burst. I simply like the looks of this tortoise and am interested in mating it with a similar animal.
Regarding your comments, they may be true - I had never heard that before. But this particular animal has grazing time outside almost every day and is under UV lighting the rest of the time.
Additionally, I chose this particular tortoise out of a litter of Leopards and even early on it was considerably lighter then it's siblings. I have also had the opportunity to see some of it's siblings kept under similar circumstances and they do not show the blonde trait at all.
Is it possible that there is more to this trait then simply environmental issues at work? I would be very interested in hearing everyone's thoughts. I make no claims regarding the genetic or environmental causes of this coloration and I will gladly entertain any reasonable explanations.
Ed, do you have any additional information regarding the cause and effect of lighting and temperature in Leopards. I acknowledge that you are more knowlegable on the subject then I and I would greatly appreciate anything that you could share.
