And I agree with your point in that the best foods are going to be natural fare and graze (grasses and such) But for some this is not always practical and I'm just saying there are other options. Once again, if you feed too much or not enough of any one item you run into problems. As far as the romaine goes it does have plusses in that it is relatively high in calcium. When I buy romaine I look for the dark thick leaved nasty looking (to people) stuff and feed only the top 3 or 4 inches of the head to the growing tortoises. Now, that's just the romaine. I do this with all the greens I buy. Then, of course, I feed grasses and the mazuri to those that will eat it and occasionally the fruits mentioned. So you see, it is mixed up pretty good without too much trouble. Getting back to your point and the natural fare. That is the way to go if you have the time, space and patients to put in the work.
