I have a nice group of sulcatas, 1 75lb. female, and 3 25lb. males, and lastly, one 10 pound male. They have the run of a huge pasture at my farm. I have been surprised at the lack of interaction between the tortoises especially when it comes to breeding. I was under the impression that males in this species were "horn dogs" and mated year around with the females as the weather inspires them. I have seen 0 mating activity and I have had female and one of the males together since January. Can anyone lend some advice on this? The other funny thing is that the only one that cannot breed yet due to his size is the only one that exhibits the behavior; the ten pound male. He struts right up to the female and rams her all the time, also comes up and rams the lawn mower and my feet as well as the other males. I would expect to see this same type of behavior in teh large males, why don't I?
