You should not worm a tortoise yourself and worming weekly would definately be overkill, I think.
If you are concerned that your tortoise has worms, take a fresh fecal sample (poop) to the vet to get it tested. You will be charged for an office visit and anywhere from 10-20 dollars for the fecal exam. Worming medication would be extra.
Be sure to take your tortoise to a vet who has treated reptiles/tortoises so he will know what medications are safe. (Ivermectin, used commonly for worming dogs and cats can be fatal to torts.)
Do not use pet store wormers as they might kill your tort.
