I admit to being very cynical and emotional about this kind of thing. I can't help but wonder if developers just feel that destroying the gopher colonies and paying the fines are worth avoiding any delay that might occur from trying to collect and relocate the torts. Heck! the fine is only $500 per burrow! That's chump change to the big developers!
I am glad to hear that there are at least SOME cases where gophers are saved and relocated...

: That wouldn't happen in Florida. I personally know of several cases where construction couldn't commence until the ground was inspected and torts, if any, were relocated. I have a neighbor who is an engineer for JEA utility and he moved 2 yearlings just last week. I got to see them before finding their new home- awsome little guys-slightly bigger than a baseball.
