Ed's right, as usual. If you pick a boxie that is native to your range, and you can keep it in it's pen (suitable hibernation spot) all year, then I'd bet it's easier overall than a redfoot. A boxie will eat less (not really an issue I guess), but perhaps a redfoot will be slightly easier to feed (not dealing with worms and such)...

They need about the same space, and at least in warm months the pen could be the same... (well, don't house them together of course).

If you really want an active animal to watch and interact with, probably a boxie won't do it.

if you lived in Florida, I'd guess a redfoot would be easier.
