: : : : I am trying to locate thornless prickly pears. I read about thema few years ago. I've not found totally spineless varieties, but have located a species that has few spines whih are very easily removed. I have just ordered some and will let all know how they turn out.
: : : :: Here in Southern Cal I find a variety commonly called 'nopales' which are spineless and thoroughly enjoyed by CDT's. Is that what you're looking for? Rachel
: : Rachel,
: : If they are are truly spineless ...YES!!!
: : Can I buy some from you? E-mail me

: Well they do have some spines but how many/ what kind of torts are they? My guys especially like local opuntia which has the very fine hair like spines which they eat just fine! They are mid size CDT's. Go to a nursery or even home depot and i'm sure they would have what you need for 2 or 3 bucks. You may have to wait until spring when many places get in a fresh selection. The company that provides them is Altman specialty, maybe you could find them on the web.-Rachel P.S. opuntias are fairly easy to peel if you have hatchlings as i do! :)
