The eyes should start improving now the rabbit pellets are gone.
Keep up the soakings, every day or every other day.
Sand doesn't provide much traction for the feet, it's not easy to walk on.

The carpet might be a better idea.
Check out EJ's post to you for info on the best outdoor carpet to use.
