Hi Lisa,
you should be able to grow hibiscus indoors, Mulberry trees get too big though.
I moved to Arizona in part because the climate is good most of the year for the sulcata.
It did get pretty chilly most of November until now, but it's starting to warm up again.
Anywhere from low to high seventies at the moment, even low eighties. But it drops down at night to mid thirties, mid forties. So the sulcata do require a heated night time shelter .
I'm the wrong person to ask about Arizona, I'd never set foot on the mainland USA before moving here last September, from Hawaii.
I live just outside Phoenix in Avondale.
Avondale used to be a poor, tiny cotton community, but it's really growing fast. Avondale, Goodyear and Litchfield Park.
Every time I drive down the road there are new sub divisions, commercial centers etc popping up!
Areas fenced off overnight and buildings going up.
It's only 20 minutes from Phoenix, and is still pretty small town,no huge malls (yet) which is nice.
Best of luck whatever you choose.
It must be very frustrating for you, doing all you can to prevent it,but still seeing the torts pyramid.
