Hi, I would move it to a larger container, my 4" redfoot spends the night and early morning in a large rubbermaid. Before going out in his pen for the day.Put the food just outside the hide box, redfoots can be very shy at first. If you watch them they tend to go back into hiding. I feed mine romaine, endive, watercress, hibiscus flowers, with papaya, and melon mixed in. She also likes grapes. Keep offering a variety of foods daily, and let the tort eat in peace. Go easy on the dog food. Redfoots should have animal protien, but only in a small amount once a month , twice a month at the most. Instead of canned food, I use rehydrated cat chow.
Although my redfoot now comes out and eats infront of me it was very shy for the first few weeks.I would try to get it in a bigger home though, a small tank could easily overheat.Plus there's no room for exercise.
Keep up the soaks, redfoots drink alot of water, let us know how it goes, Terry.
PS, even now my redfoot is still very shy, she is eating well but does not explore her pen, unlike my sulcata and leopards who roam around all day in their pens. She has a favorite spot and digs in for the day.Just give her time, and try not to disturb her when shes eating. Let us know how it goes.
: Someone please help me. I have a red foot that is very stubborn and is not eating well. I have tried all kinds of greens, Romaine, Kale, Mustard greens, Parsley...etc. I tried grapes, apple, plum, cucumber, mango and he just takes a small taste and walks away. I dont have time to watch him all day but he eats very little. I have and adult redfoot i also recently purchased that eats like crazy, everything i give her. The only thing the little guy will consistantly eat is mushy pears but i dont want to just feed him that. I dont even know if its good for him. I have him set up in a 10 gal tank now with a 10 degree temp gradieant 75-85 degree's. Full-spec light, heat lamp, and the food is constantly available, but again little is eaten. He is sprayed one a day in the afternoon and given a daily water bath. I also hae a young sulcata that eats 5X as much as the young red foot, what am i doing wrong? Alos, is there any info on captive breeding these species that anyone has come accross that would be informative reading?
