Whew!! This takes me back to philosophy 101 when my TA asked if I would give up my life for his child if I saw that the child was in deadly danger. I said I would try to save the child but I would not give my life for the child especially if I had children of my own. But if it was my child in deadly danger you better believe that I would put every drop of my blood into saving my child. If I die in the process that is fine b/c my child survived. He was outraged and thought I needed help. Granted it is a little different argument but similar in some ways. That is precisely why I could never be nor would I want to be a firefighter or in any profession where another human's life is in my hands.
If I had to choose between a turtle and child I think instinct would kick and I would save the child. I wouldn't sit there and debate if I like turtles more or if that child may someday have the cure for cancer. For me, I think my natural reaction would be to save the child. But I respect people's decisions otherwise.
Tolerance is a good thing. If the world had tolerance there would be no discusion on if there was nuclear war.
That's my 2 cents, errr maybe a dollar by now.
