I would certainly save a child before any animal, no matter if I knew the child or not. I think it to be a basic human instinct: to preserve human life, not destroy it (or left to be destroyed). I am very compacionate about animals, and often times prefer their company over a human's, but a human's life should always come before an animals. It's like my mom used to tell me growing up when i would try to save a turtle from getting run over: Don't put your life in danger over an animals life; you have a soul, animals don't.
As far as saving which animal, that's not on the same level as a human and an animal. It is up to the individual, and what species of animals they like: if they like horses more than turtles, then most likely they would save the horse before the turtle. If it were the other way around, then they would porbably save the turtle before the horse. Personally, I would save the turtle since i am a lover of turtles. But, I would hope that any human would save another human over an animal.
Thats just my opinion; others have theirs. I respect them for their opinions, and hope that they respect me for mine.
