While you theory might be unfounded it is a good and logical one. You do want to provide as little change as possible. Also look into providing some hay or shredded newspaper for cover (or a hide box as the above post suggested). As to the WC suspicion, there are a large # of them available for some reason about now. Again, keep them very warm and well hydrated. Once they are established they are very easy to keep but they do also 'crash' easy. Watch them closely.
